작업 ‘점거당한 집’은 동명의 훌리오 코르타사르(Julio Cortazar)의 짧은 단편 「점거당한 집」에서 영감을 얻었다. 소설은 어느 날 갑자기 들려오는 미지의 소리로 인해 차츰 주인공들의 일상 공간들이 점거되기 시작하며 집으로부터 추방되는 상황을 그린다. 점진적으로 축적된 미지의 불안감은 ‘집’이라는 장소로 치환되어 버린다.

일산 신도시는 90년대 최초 건설 계획에 군부대가 개입하게 된다. 북의 남침을 대비하여 유사시에 도시 전체를 ‘진지화陣地化’하는 계획이 그것이었다. 집 내벽은 손쉽게 부술 수 있도록 얇은 합판과 각목으로 만들도록 하고, 그렇게 부숴낸 집들을 하나로 연결하여 방어선을 구축하도록 계획 하였다. 94년 국회에서 민주당 김옥천 의원이 밝힌 이 사실에, 군부는 발표 4일 만에 최초 계획 이후 모든 것은 백지화 되었다는 수습 발표를 하게 되지만. 일산 주민들은 거센 항의와 누구도 책임지지 않는 ‘집’속에서 의심과 불안을 안고 살아가야 했다. 이후 모든 정치적 상황은 추가적인 결론 없이 허무하게 끝나버린다. 작업은 그곳의 불안감이 여전히 유효함을 작업을 통해 암시 한다.

The work "Occupied House" was inspired by the short story "Casa Tomada" by Julio Cortazar. The novel depicts the gradual occupation of the protagonists' everyday spaces and their subsequent expulsion from their home due to the sudden appearance of an unknown sound. The accumulating sense of unease eventually renders the concept of "home" replaced by a place of uncertainty.

In the 1990s, the military intervened in the initial construction plans of Ilsan New Town. The plan was to fortify the entire city as a defensive position in preparation for a potential invasion from the North. Walls within houses were designed to be easily broken down with thin plywood and lumber, and the broken-down houses were planned to be connected to form a defensive line. Despite a statement from the military just four days after the revelation by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Ok-cheon in the National Assembly in 1994, stating that everything had been reset to square one since the initial plan, Ilsan residents had to live with suspicion and anxiety in the unclaimed 'houses' without anyone taking responsibility. Subsequently, all political situations ended inconclusively. The artwork subtly implies that the anxiety of the place still persists through the work.
